The Breast Augmentation operation.
The 3 most common types of breast augmentation.
  A closer look at the breast augmentation surgery

There are three common options of how to have the breast implant inserted during a breast augmentation.

These include:

• Under the breast along the fold line
• Under the arm
• Around the areola or nipple

L'amour Privé recovery garments provide support, relief and comfort for these three breast augmentation types. Planning for your recovery process should be considered when choosing your breast augmentation preference(s).

Under the Breast - breast augmentation

An incision is made under the breast about  2-4cm's long (depending on the Doctor) This incision can take a while to  heal if the implant is placed under the breast muscle, or faster to heal if placed on top of the breast muscle (more on that soon), once the implant is inserted and stitched up. There are things to look out for when searching for a top to wear while recovering.

When choosing your recovery garments avoid built in support, seams, or abrasive areas that will cause irritation and possible damage to the wound. Choosing the wrong recovery garment could prolong your healing and recovery process. L'amour Privé recovery garments are designed and developed utlising the latest innovations insurgical textiles, and important industry feedback from doctors, surgeons andbreast augmentation patients.

What to look for in a recovery  garment;

• Supportive fabric, firm enough to hold everything in place to keep movement to a minimum to allow the healing process to continue with minimal interruption, to give the best results.

• Comfortable and natural fabric that allows you to wear the garment for a long period of time without discomfort or irritation, the fabric with its wool and lyrca blend gives enough stretch to be comfortable, and mould to your bodies shape while still allowing your skin to breathe, this reduces the chance of infection and speeds up the healing process.

Any of the designs we offer would suit this type of implant incision. The double layer of fabric on the front of L'amour Privé recovery garments assists in the reduction of sensitivity of the areola region which can be a side effect of the surgery, this can happen without you even being aware of it.

Under the Arm (armpit) - breast augmentation

This incision is a few centimetres long and located under the arm, this insertion can take a little longer to heal due to it being under the arm. This type of breast augmentation is being performed more often than the other areas, and the chance of reopening the wound is more likely than the other areas.

Watch out for bulky seams near the armpit, and high cut sleeve holes, as this can cause further injury to the incision area during the recovery process.

What to look for in a recovery  garment;

Look for a recovery garment that is easy to get into as not being able to  lift your arms will hinder your ability to get dressed easily (and many other daily functions).

Also, as above something comfortable supportive and natural fibre as much as possible.

Around the Areola or Nipple - breast augmentation

This is the most difficult incision to avoid irritation is this one, as anything you wear will touch the incision site (of course there will be dressing over  the area) however reducing the discomfort is possible and these garments do this.

Implant Placement

The two options for implant placement are in front of the breast muscle and behind the breast tissue or behind both the breast muscle and breast tissue.

Both options have their pro's and con's and it's worth doing your own research (as only you know your body best).

Also there are constant updates in medical technologies and breakthroughs and new techniques to look into and consider for yourself. I did months of research before making a decision on surgery or any of the decisions that go with it and some of the things I found were;

Under the Breast Muscle;

• For thin girls that don‚t have a lot of fat or breast tissue to cover the implant, having the implant placed behind the muscle reduces the chance of seeing the implant.

• Having the implant under the muscle reduces some of the side effects by about 70%, for example rippling, capsular contraction and hardening of the implant are reduced as the implant is massaged by the breast muscle with everyday movements and giving extra coverage of the implant.

• Although having the implant placed under the muscle is a more painful option and the recovery time is longer, I felt this was the best option for me. Everyone is different however, and I urge you to seek your own professional advice, and do the research.

On Top of the Muscle, Under the Breast Tissue;

The placement of the implant on top of the breast muscle has a faster recovery time, can give a  fuller looking breast (this also greatly depends on the Doctors abilities) and of course, there are side effects.

Different Stages of Recovery

The initial few days, the top best suited is the boobtube (easy to get in and out of with minimal effort).

Day 5-10, any top would suit this stage of recovery as you will be capable of quite a bit of movement now and can start to consider look and style as well as comfort.

Side Effects;

There are ways to minimise the side effects, these include:

• Quit smoking before surgery

• Make sure you are at your ideal weight before surgery (as substantial weight loss or gain can cause the implants to move, ripple or harden). Talk to your Plastic Surgeon for more information.
